Woolborough Lane, Crawley
Project Details
Edge Structures were appointed as the structural engineers for the refurbishment of this industrial unit on the outskirts of Gatwick Airport.
The key feature on this project was increasing the roof height of the portal frame. This involved a detailed analysis and feasibility a study, which was ultimately approved by the client.
The external yard was overalled, with the introduction of a ramp for level access to the loading area. A new concrete apron slab was constructed across the entire yard, which gave new life to this previously tired facitily.
Challenges were overcome by instructing a 3 dimensional survey to be undertaken. This allowed us to build a detailed 3D model of the structure, and to develop detailed strengthening solutions for the frame.
The existing rafters were removed for modifications to be made, and later re-used after extending the columns to their new height.
